Human Capital for a Sustainable Future

There is a growing international recognition on the role of human capital as a key enabler for sustainable development. This section welcomes scholars coming from a variety of scientific fields or employing interdisciplinary perspectives for the study of human capital from the perspective of the sustainable development agenda. In the same time, we aim to exchange ideas regarding the new challenges and opportunities in the labor market arising from the digital transformation.  Aiming to provide an interface between policy making and academia, the topics to be discussed encompass, but are not restricted to:

  • Educational performance, educational choices, school quality
  • Education for sustainable development
  • Transformation of education, the role of technology in education
  • (In)equality of education
  • School-to-work and career transitions
  • Life-long learning, up-skilling and re-skilling of workers
  • Factors driving digital transformation within companies
  • Skills and competencies needed for the emerging technologies
  • Understanding the impact of AI on workers and workplaces
  • Collaboration between the education system and the business sector

Chair Ana-Maria ZAMFIR

Ana-Maria Zamfir holds a PhD in Sociology and is the Head of the ”Education, vocational training and labour market” department from the National Scientific Research Institute for Labour and Social Protection (Romania). Her main fields of expertise include education and skill development, school to work transition, career mobility, labour market participation, active labour market policies, social and educational inequalities, youth participation on the labour market, migration and equal opportunities. She is experienced in impact assessment of public policies and programs. She coordinated 8 research projects and participated in more than 50 projects.
